Lightworks: Edit and Master Digital Videos on Linux Mint

Lightworks is a professional NLE system for editing and mastering digital video in various formats (2K and 4K), PAL, NTSC and high-definition formats. No source code of Lightworks has yet been released, but the company has indicated that source code release will happen eventually.

Lightworks Open Source

Linux users can download a free version or pay for the full version for more features. In my opinion, the free version is good for Linux users who want a video editor which is better than its alternatives such as Pitivi and Kdenlive.

But learning Lightworks is not so easy, you need time to familiarize with it. After some time, you will be accustomed with it and you will have started doing some pretty cool modifications on your videos.

Lightworks is available in 64-bit versions in .rpm and .deb packages. It is easy to install it on Ubuntu, Lubuntu, Xubuntu, Mint, Fedora and all the distros which support these packages. For a better perfomance, Linux computers need Intel i7 or fast AMD chipset or faster chipsets. It is recommended to have at least 3 GB RAM in your PC.

Lightwork is one of the best editor in Linux and for this reason it has a lot of useful features.

Lightworks has the widest native format support in any proffesional NLE. It supports Quicktime, MXF and AVI containers and the most useful formats without the need for transcoding such as ProRes, AVC-Intra ,Avid DNxHD, DVCPRO HD, DPX, RED R3D, AVCHD(with AC3 audio), XDCAM EX, H.264 and many other formats.

You can share your movies with colleagues, family and friends using export feature which exports to MPEG4/H.264. The video files which you edit are ready for YouTube, Facebook, Vimeo and Instagram.

Import, Export and Rendering is very fast and Lightworks allows your to edit videos while you are importing, exporting or rendering any kind of supported material. With these time saving tools, Lightworks is definitely the fastest editing application available.

Also it has very good trimmering. Once you have trimmered in Lightworks, you won’t never look back. It has primary and secondary colour correction, blurs, mattes and masks including over 100 inbuilt effect presets.
