Ubuntu Software Center Will Be No Longer Available

Reports show that Ubuntu Software Center will be no longer available in Ubuntu 16.04. It will be replaced with another software. Rumors say that this software is going to be GNOME’s Software application.

According to these rumors, GNOME’s Software application will take Ubuntu Software Center place as the default and package management utility. We are talking about the Unity 7 based desktop.

The Ubuntu desktop manager Will Cooke quote at the Ubuntu Online Summit:

“We are more confident in our ability to add support for Snaps to GNOME Software Centre than we are to Ubuntu Software Centre. And so, right now, it looks like we will be replacing [the USC] with GNOME Software Centre.”

Gnome Software Center

GNOME 3.18 stack will be included in Ubuntu 16.04. There will be new plugins to support the Software Centre’s reviews, ratings and paid app features.

Other apps are going to be dropped in Ubuntu 16.04. Two apps that have been a long time in Ubuntu package and are going to be removed are:

  • The disc burning utility Brasero
  • The instant messaging app Empathy

If you are a supporter of these apps or if you use these apps you can still find them and install from Ubuntu archives.

I believe that Ubuntu 16.04 will be the best Ubuntu in the game.
